Welcome to La Salsamenta, where our culinary story began in 2012 as a cooking school founded by Sara, the visionary and eldest sister of our family. Sara, an interior designer turned passionate food enthusiast, decided to embark on a new chapter, swapping construction for the world of gastronomy. Trained in various culinary schools across Barcelona. She initially offered cooking courses, and it quickly changed to offer hands-on cooking classes in Barcelona.

A Family who Loves Cooking

Driven by our family’s shared love for cooking, Clara, Sara’s sister, joined the team a few years later, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge in Yucatecan and local Mexican cuisine. La Salsamenta isn’t just a charming secret garden where we do cooking classes. It’s a place where cultures converge, and culinary traditions are shared.

The La Salsamenta Paella cooking class was the highlight of our visit to Barcelona. We booked direct through the excellent La Salsamenta website, which worked very well and was actually a little cheaper than booking through Airbnb. The three hours we spent with Clara were superb – she was friendly and welcoming, explaining that we were in the garden of her family’s house. She spoke knowledgeably about the history of the dish, explained all of the ingredients, gave us clear instructions and then handed over to us to do the cooking, whilst remaining close at hand to tweak things and ensure that all went as it should. Clara paid scrupulous attention to dietary restrictions and preferences, with the result being that we made three fantastic paellas, one vegetarian, one seafood, and one meat. Clara was generous in her provision of food and drink throughout the whole three hours – olives, water, wine, soft-drinks on arrival, then very generous provision of tapas – roasted and grilled vegetables, preserved meats, bread, wine etc. - as we waited for the paellas to cook. We sampled all three paellas and all were superb. We were there as a couple, and very much enjoyed meeting the others in our group of eleven, some travellers and a few locals, all friendly and enthusiastic about food. A great thing to do as a couple, a group, or as a solo traveller. Very highly recommended!

We had a really great time with Clara and Bruno. We had booked the whole thing via air b&b and were thrilled. The entrance is discreet and there is only a small doorbell. They opened the door for us straight away. Behind it was an open-plan kitchen area, a terrace and a conservatory where we ate at the end. The guests came from all over the world and we cooked together. There were just under 10 or 12 of us. You learn a lot about the culture, meet new people and cook a really excellent paella. Really great and highly recommended. Please keep up the good work and we'll definitely be back!

I had a great time at this Parlla cooking class! The chef was clear and engaging, the recipes were delicious and easy to follow, and the atmosphere was fun and welcoming. Highly recommend for a fun and educational culinary experience!

Absolutely the best decision we made while planning our Barcelona girls trip!! Clara and her family were so warm, welcoming and knowledgeable that we felt right at home. We learned so much, cooked amazing food, and then enjoyed that food and wine with new friends. After doing lots of sightseeing, taking part in this kind of activity was very refreshing and it gave us a deeper understanding of the culture and people of Barcelona. Sara, our host and cook, was very knowledgeable and clearly an expert paella cook, providing very clear explanations and instructions. She was always nearby to help us but also gave us the space to comfortably do whatever we were doing.

It was a lovely experience to get to know about the local food culture and a great way to learn more about cooking in general..Paella looks complicated but with Clara's explanations, I am now confident to try it at home :) The ambiance was great and everyone was very friendly. I recommend this to anyone, (tourist or local) who'd like to learn more about paella and have a lovely lunch with good wine, good food and and a friendly atmosphere . Thank you Clara!

Vous pouvez faire du tourisme, mais goûtez-vous vraiment à la culture? Apprendre à cuisiner la paëlla vous amène dans cet univers trop souvent caché des sites touristiques. Sara est une hôtesse passionnée qui maîtrise très bien sa matière et sait vous en faire profiter au maximum tout en sachant comment bien communiquer sa passion avec ses hôtes, qui à la fin du repas, deviennent littéralement des amis! Cette activité peut très bien convenir pour un repas entre amis, en famille, lors d'une "date" ou bien d'activités de promotion de travail d'équipe... Enfin, une des plus belles expériences lors de mon périple de 2 mois à sillonner l'Europe...je recommende fortement, vous ne serez pas déçu!!
